Winter is Coming, Thaw Out in Brazil!

By Brittany Dismuke, on October 21, 2018

If you live in one of the parts of the US that actually experiences seasons, you know that Winter is coming. Summer has ended, the cold has started to snap and sweaters and hats are being pulled out once again.

What if you hate the cold and the winter? Sweaters are itchy, and you hate not being able to do anything with your fingers while wearing gloves? Escape to Brazil, where besides having a tropical climate, the seasons are opposite of the US. While everyone at home is bundled from head to toe, you can be lounging in your swimwear (or not) on a beautiful beach or taking part in one of the many adventures and experiences that Spring/Summer in Brazil have to offer.

There are so many fun things to do in Brazil, it may be difficult to choose between them. To make it easier I have highlighted a few of my favorites that seemed most likely to warm up any of those winter blues while also remaining under $200 per activity!

Start defrosting with a day trip to a private beach in southern Pernambuco, Praia dos Carneiros! Your trip will begin with a bus ride and a breakfast stop, followed by a two-hour scenic boat ride. Once you arrive at the beach you will have two hours to spend as you wish, with options to purchase additional activities, lunch, or just relax sunbathing and swimming. Round-Trip transportation is included with the trip.

Now that you have gotten your feet wet and warmed up on a beach a bit, time to get out and live a little, and this hang gliding adventure is the perfect activity! Experts will go over the hang gliding process with you and then off you go with a bird’s-eye view of “Rio de Janeiro's main attractions, including Sugar Loaf Mountain, Corcovado, Copacabana, Ipanema, Lagoa and Niteroi city on the other side of Guanabara Bay.” Your whole experience will be recorded by a camera attached to the hang glider, so while right at the $200 budgeted price the experience as whole and the ability to share it with others is priceless!

This open jeep tour takes you through the Tijuca Rain Forest, a rain forest in the middle of a city! There are many photo opportunities and views during the tour including: "Cachoeira dos macacos" (monkey's waterfall), "Mesa do Imperador" (Emperor's table), Cascatinha (Taunay's waterfall), and Capela Mayrink (Mayrink Chapel). The tour also includes a mild hike through the forest, where you learn about the ecosystem. Tons of nature and animals to be spotted on tour both in the jeep and during the hike. This tour includes transportation, but meals and drinks are not included.

Have a full day to spare in Brazil? Not sure there is a better option than this Fast-Boat Tour. The duration is 14 hours, so you will need basically a full day to spare! Lunch is included in the tour and there are coolers with ice for you to bring your own additional drinks and snacks for the rest of the day. This fast-boat tour are small groups of up to 15 people, so no over-crowded boats to worry about in this experience! The tour stops at Blue Lagoon, Cataguases Islands, Botinas Islands, Green Lagoon, Japariz beach, Saco do Céu, among others possible. No stops are guaranteed, as this tour is about the experience and breaking away from the overcrowded destinations for a relaxing experience. Snorkeling, swimming, floats, underwater photos and transportation are also included in this tour.

Do it all with this five-hour combo tour: off-road, hike and cruise to experience the Brazilian side of Iguassu Falls. Once you get to the park you will get into an open top vehicle and off-road through the jungle, then take a hike through the trails to a waterfall and break for a swim. Then you will board a boat for a view of Three Musketeers and Devil’s Throat Falls and return for pick up. The beautiful landscapes make perfect Instagram worthy snaps to share with your friends and family as they freeze back home! Round-trip transportation and the activities listed are included, but no food or snacks are available within the tour.

Looking for something a little more laid back? Vacation doesn’t have to be all hustle and bustle, enjoy the nature of Brazil with a nice tour of Pedra Bonita. This four-hour tour description includes multiple mentions of this tours mildness and beauty. Transportation is included and the walk through Pedra Bonita has beautiful views from beaches to cityscape and you are free to explore the park. There is also free access to a flight ramp and you can view flights take off. At the end of the tour you will stop at São Conrado beach and can go for a swim. No food is included, but wouldn’t it be nice to pack a lunch and have a picnic while exploring either Pedra Bonita or the beach?
